Guzman standing in Brewers' way

As the Cubs finish off the regular season against the Brewers, they'll have a Venezuelan righty on the mound, but it won't be Carlos Zambrano.

Cubs probable pitcher

Angel Guzman

  • #37 RHP
  • (0-0) 7.04 ERA 6 SO
Cubs: Guzman will get the start in the regular season finale. The Cubs had considered Carlos Zambrano, but he wanted a side day on Sunday instead in preparation for the postseason. Guzman most likely will not be on the playoff roster. The young right-hander is coming back from elbow surgery last August, and also has had shoulder surgery. This will be his 14th career start and first since May 17, 2007.

Selection Sunday: Crew turning to CC

Tied atop the NL Wild Card standings heading into game No. 162, the Brewers are turning to their big man against the Cubs in the biggest game of the season.

Brewers probable pitcher

CC Sabathia

  • #52 LHP
  • (16-10) 2.80 ERA 244 SO
Brewers: Sabathia will make his third consecutive start on three days' rest. He is a free agent after the season, and with Ben Sheets' struggles on Saturday and Manny Parra working in the bullpen amid concerns about his workload, the Brewers are trying to get every last pitch out of Sabathia.

Cubs to face LA

A series of Cubs relievers held Milwaukee in check for much of the game, but they bent in the seventh and broke in the eighth to the Brewers, who clinched the NL Wild Card and set up an NLDS matchup with the Dodgers for the Cubs.

Wild Card winners

In the biggest Brewers game in decades, Milwaukee got big-time performances from CC Sabathia, who tossed a complete game, and Ryan Braun who hit a decisive homer in the eighth, to claim the Wild Card and the NL's final playoff berth.
