Dodgers probable pitcher

Derek Lowe

  • RHP
  • (0-0) -.-- ERA 0 SO
The Dodgers can start Lowe in Game 1, bring him back on three days rest for Game 4, then have him on regular rest for a Game 7, if the series lasts that long and they so choose. It's a nice situation to be in, having someone on the staff who's already pitched winning clinchers in a Championship Series and World Series, as Lowe did with the Red Sox in 2004. Lowe again showed that the spotlight is no issue for him when he set the tone for the Division Series by containing the Cubs for a two-run, wind-blown home run over six innings at Wrigley Field last week. He has a very successful history pitching in Wrigley Field and the same is true for the right-hander at Citizens Bank Park, where he's 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA in three career starts, none of those occurring this year. He is 4-1 with two saves and a 3.02 ERA in his career against the Phillies.

Phillies probable pitcher

Cole Hamels

  • #35 LHP
  • (0-0) -.-- ERA 0 SO
Hamels is coming of one of the best starts of his career on one of the biggest stages. He shut down the Brewers in Game 1 of the National League Division Series, holding Milwaukee scoreless on two hits in eight innings. Hamels made that start on seven days of rest, and he will have the same luxury when he takes the ball against the Dodgers on Thursday. Manager Charlie Manuel said that the extra rest has been crucial for the 24-year-old Hamels, who finished second in the National League with 227 1/3 innings pitched. Hamels has made two starts against the Dodgers this year, going 1-0 with a 2.57 ERA.

Great sixth sense (0-1) (1-0)

Phillies 3, Dodgers 2

One slips away

Game 1 of the NLCS was almost signed, sealed and delivered for Los Angeles, but in the sixth, that package was taken away when a costly Rafael Furcal error led to two Phillies homers off Derek Lowe, canceling the two early runs the Dodgers put up on the board against Cole Hamels.
