When Derek Lowe takes the mound to face the Nationals on Monday night at Nationals Park, he'll be attempting to prolong the Braves' momentum and get back on track on the mound.

Braves probable pitcher

Derek Lowe

  • #32 RHP
  • (1-0) 2.81 ERA 15 SO
Lowe struggled with his control while throwing 106 pitches and matching a career-high five walks in a five-inning effort against the Marlins on Tuesday night. His April 10 start against the Nationals was limited to three innings because of a lengthy rain delay. In his two starts against the Nationals last year, he worked 16 innings, surrendered seven hits and allowed just two earned runs. The 36-year-old sinkerballer began this season by allowing two hits in eight scoreless innings against the Phillies.

Wet win worth the wait for Zimmermann (6-7) (2-10)

Nationals 3, Braves 2

Lowe takes the loss

After waiting more than two hours to play, the Braves jumped out to a lead in the fourth inning courtesy of Matt Diaz's second homer of the season, a two-run blast. But Derek Lowe gave those runs back in the bottom of half of the frame, as well as the go-ahead run in the sixth.

Rookie shines

It came two hours and 10 minutes late, but Jordan Zimmermann's Major League debut was well worth the wait. The Nationals' top prospect earned his first career victory after allowing just two runs on six hits, backed by RBI hits off the bats of Elijah Dukes and Jesus Flores.
