Cordero getting it done for Reds

Francisco Cordero doesn't always slam the door when he converts a save, but as long as he get's the save, the closer is satisfied.

Reds probable pitcher

Micah Owings

  • #33 RHP
  • (0-1) 7.20 ERA 2 SO
A long layoff had Owings looking a little rusty during a 9-3 loss to the Brewers on Wednesday. The right-hander, who worked one batter into the sixth, gave up four earned runs and five hits over five innings with two walks and two strikeouts. Almost half of his 89 pitches were called for balls (42). It had been 10 days since Owings pitched in any kind of game and that was a Minor League outing at Spring Training. That was because his first regular-season start was scrubbed because a rainout prompted the Reds to recalibrate their rotation. Owings was moved to the bullpen but saw no action. In just 1 1/3 lifetime innings vs. the Cubs, Owings has a 33.75 ERA with five runs allowed on two hits.

Harden gets No. 1 (7-6) (8-4)

Cubs 7, Reds 2

Wet, woe at Wrigley

On a rainy, chilly night in Chicago, the Reds' bats got off to a hot start on Jay Bruce's second-inning homer, but they were mostly quiet the rest of the way. Micah Owings took the loss against the Cubs, yielding five runs over 4 2/3 frames.
