Entering the finale of a three-game series with the Red Sox on Sunday night at 8:05 ET having dropped the first two games of the set, the Yankees will ask Andy Pettitte -- who has pitched at least seven innings in each of his first three starts this season -- to be himself.
Yankees probable pitcher
Andy Pettitte
- #46 LHP
- (2-0) 2.53 ERA 10 SO
Pettitte draws the call for his fourth start of the season as the Yankees complete a three-game series at Fenway Park. The veteran left-hander turned in a gritty outing his last time around on Tuesday against the A's, limiting Oakland to two runs on nine hits while allowing every batter to put the ball in play -- no walks, no strikeouts. Pettitte relied on his two-seamer and a sharp curveball to master an Oakland team that threatened but managed to let Pettitte off the hook. The Yankees have been able to count on innings so far from Pettitte -- he has made it at least seven innings in all three of his starts. He last faced the Red Sox on Aug. 26 at the old Yankee Stadium, allowing six runs on 10 hits in a 4 2/3-inning losing effort. Pettitte has a 6-2 career record with a 3.53 ERA in 15 games (13 starts) at Fenway Park.

The Red Sox will carry a nine-game winning streak into Sunday night's 8:10 ET series finale with the Yankees, handing the ball to reliever-turned-starter Justin Masterson -- filling in for injured righty Daisuke Matsuzaka -- against veteran left-hander Andy Pettitte, who is 16-8 with a 2.74 ERA lifetime against Boston.

Sox run circles around Yanks (9-9) (12-6)
Red Sox 4, Yankees 1
The Yankees needed a gutsy effort from Andy Pettitte in the last of three at Fenway Park, but the Red Sox chipped away at the veteran lefty en route to a sweep that pushed New York back to the .500 mark. Reliever Mark Melancon made his Major League debut with two scoreless innings.

Finding new ways to win, the Red Sox shoved the Yankees out of Boston with their 10th consecutive win thanks in part to Jacoby Ellsbury's straight steal of home, the first such play by a Sox player since Billy Hatcher did it in 1994. The Red Sox finished their homestand a perfect 9-0.
