Nolasco to go for Marlins in finale

Selected by the Cubs in the fourth round of the 2001 First-Year Player Draft, Ricky Nolasco will start Sunday's series finale at Wrigley Field as the Marlins look to salvage a series split.

Marlins probable pitcher

Ricky Nolasco

  • #47 RHP
  • (1-2) 6.92 ERA 22 SO
April was pretty much a struggle for Nolasco. In his five starts, he didn't have an outing longer than six innings, and he reached that total twice. His lone win came on Opening Day, and he had his troubles with shutdown innings. In his last start, at the Mets on April 28, Nolasco had a no-decision, giving up four runs in five innings. Nolasco kept his team in the game and left with the Marlins trailing by a run. Nolasco came up through the Cubs' system, and he was traded to Florida after the 2005 season as part of the Juan Pierre trade. In his lone appearance at Wrigley Field, Nolasco threw two scoreless innings in 2006. It was during his rookie season and it was his first MLB win.

Cubs to pay tribute to Maddux, Jenkins

Ferguson Jenkins and Greg Maddux will be celebrated on Sunday at Wrigley Field as the Cubs retire the No. 31 both wore with the team before the series finale against the Marlins at 1:20 p.m. CT.

Cubs probable pitcher

Carlos Zambrano

  • #38 RHP
  • (2-1) 4.64 ERA 30 SO
Both Zambranos were back in action in his last start, Tuesday in Arizona. The pitcher entered with a 4.85 ERA and held the D-backs to three runs in seven innings. The hitter had been 0-for-9 before logging a three-hit game that included his 17th career homer. Zambrano goes for career win No. 99 against a Marlins team he has handled well in the past.

Grand finale: Cubs top Marlins (14-11) (13-11)

Marlins get slammed

Ricky Nolasco has still yet to pitch past the sixth inning this year, but it's another stat that must have the Marlins grousing: They've given up five grand slams on the season, after Derrek Lee launched one in the fifth inning. John Baker homered in a losing cause for Florida.

Lee's slam lifts Cubs

Some games bring good news and bad, and such was this series finale between the Cubs and Marlins. Derrek Lee's ninth career grand slam gave the Cubs the series win over the Marlins, but earlier that same inning, starter Carlos Zambrano left the game with a strained left hamstring.
