The Padres are looking for more of the same Chad Gaudin, who tossed five scoreless innings in his first start of the season, when San Diego faces Los Angeles in Sunday's series finale.

In his first start in nearly a year, Gaudin held the Rockies scoreless for five innings in a game the Padres went on to win, 4-3, at Coors Field on Tuesday. Gaudin got a lot of swings and misses with a big breaking slider and held the Rockies to three hits. He gave up all four of his walks and no hits in the first three innings, but he maintained a career-best scoreless string of 7 1/3 innings at Coors Field. He threw 88 pitches and left with gas in the tank and a desire to work on pitch efficiency.

Dodgers looking to make history in finale

Having tied a club record with nine straight home wins on Saturday, Chad Billingsley and the Dodgers are looking for a victory Sunday over the Padres en route to making history with the club's first 10-0 start at home.

Dodgers probable pitcher

Chad Billingsley

  • #58 RHP
  • (4-0) 2.14 ERA 34 SO
Billingsley wasn't quite as sharp as his seven scoreless innings against Houston, but he deserved a better fate than even the no-decision he received against the Giants. One of the three runs he allowed was unearned, another scored on closer Jonathan Broxton's bases-loaded walk. Clearly, Billingsley remains the staff ace and he'll be facing the Padres, who he beat Apr. 8 while allowing two runs in six innings.

Dodgers feeling right at home (11-14) (18-8)

Dodgers 7, Padres 3

Empty in clutch

In a moment that typified a tough series, the Padres left the bases loaded in the top of the sixth inning. In the bottom half of the inning, the Dodgers broke the game open with four runs, leaving the Friars with their fifth consecutive loss and 11th in their past 13 games.

Perfect 10

A four-run outburst with two outs in the sixth inning opened the floodgates for the Dodgers, who set a franchise record and tied the National League mark with 10 consecutive wins at home to open the season. Individually, starter Chad Billingsley improved to an NL-best 5-0.
