Wells makes first start in Milwaukee

Right-hander Randy Wells will make his first start in the Majors tonight, when the Chicago Cubs open a three-game series at Milwaukee.

Cubs probable pitcher

Randy Wells

  • #36 RHP
  • (0-0) -.-- ERA 0 SO
This would have been Carlos Zambrano's spot in the rotation but he was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Monday with a Grade 2 strained hamstring. Wells was expected to be called up from Triple-A Iowa for the game. The right-hander has appeared in four big league games before, but has not made a start. Included in his starts for Iowa was a stellar effort April 22 when he gave up one hit over seven scoreless innings, striking out four. He walked two.

Duffy takes pride in outfield defense

Chris Duffy doesn't mind playing defense. In fact, he kind of enjoys it. Actually, it's his pride and joy. A non-roster invitee to Spring Training, Duffy is shining in the outfield and adapting to Major League pitching.

Brewers probable pitcher

Dave Bush

  • #31 RHP
  • (1-0) 4.36 ERA 25 SO
Bush breezed through six innings against Arizona on Sunday, allowing back-to-back singles leading off the fourth but nothing else. But he imploded in the seventh inning, when Mark Reynolds and Justin Upton connected for back-to-back home runs to open the frame and No. 8 hitter Miguel Montero connected three batters later for a two-out, two-strike shot that tied the game and cost Bush a shot at his second win. Bush took a no-decision in his April 11 start against the Cubs, when he allowed three runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings of an eventual 6-5 Brewers loss. He's just 1-7 against the Cubs in his career.

Bradley homers

Randy Wells struck out five over five scoreless innings in his first Major League start and Milton Bradley hit his third homer, but Aaron Heilman was unable to protect a one-run lead in the Cubs' loss. Aramis Ramirez is likely headed to the DL after dislocating his left shoulder.

Homers key comeback

Dave Bush was superb over seven innings, but it appeared he was headed for a hard-luck loss. J.J. Hardy started the comeback with a solo homer in the sixth, and Ryan Braun's go-ahead two-run homer in the eighth lifted the Brewers to victory in the opener against the Cubs.
