Chi White Sox (31-34) at Chi Cubs (30-31)

TV: CSN | Radio: WSCR 670 2:20 pm ET Wrigley Field TV: WGN | Radio: WGN 720
Contrary to its moniker, the Friendly Confines of Wrigley Field have not been the kindest to White Sox pitchers in years past.

White Sox probable pitcher

Gavin Floyd

  • #34 RHP
  • (4-5) 4.94 ERA 71 SO
Floyd's recent string of successful starts continued as he collected his fifth consecutive quality outing against the Tigers on Thursday. He threw eight innings, allowing one run on five hits while striking out five and walking none. He retired 12 of the first 13 batters he faced and did not allow a run until the eighth. Over his last five starts, Floyd has struck out 36 hitters and owns a 1.67 ERA. After a rocky start to the season, Floyd is beginning to resemble the pitcher he was in 2008, when he went 17-8 with a 3.84 ERA.

Cubs waiting for consistent offense

The Cubs offense has struggled to consistently deliver in the clutch without Aramis Ramirez, but the club remains within striking distance in the tight NL Central.

Cubs probable pitcher

Carlos Zambrano

  • #38 RHP
  • (4-2) 3.39 ERA 56 SO
Lou Piniella said Zambrano's last outing against the Astros was the best he's seen the right-hander pitch and that includes his no-hitter last September. Zambrano gave up one run on three hits over eight efficient innings in the start, his second since serving a six-game suspension. He did not get a decision. Big Z did not face the White Sox last year, and is 5-2 with a 4.45 ERA in 11 games against them.

A bloop and two blasts carry Cubs (31-35) (31-31)

Cubs 6, White Sox 5

Bullpen bummer

Alexei Ramirez's tiebreaking two-run homer in the seventh seemed as if it would be enough for Gavin Floyd, who held the Cubs to one run over seven outstanding innings. But the White Sox 'pen coughed up five runs over the final two frames in a tough loss at Wrigley.

Bats arrive just in time

Things were looking bleak for the Cubs entering their half of the eighth, but back-to-back two-out homers from Derrek Lee and Geovany Soto gave the North Siders new life, setting up Alfonso Soriano's walk-off single in the ninth to give them a split with the crosstown rival Sox.
