Getz, Beckham don't look like rookies

In their first year in the Major Leagues, Chris Getz and Gordon Beckham have played very well for the White Sox and will use they experience they've gained in the second half.

White Sox probable pitcher

Gavin Floyd

  • #34 RHP
  • (6-6) 4.33 ERA 85 SO
The right-hander had a string of eight straight quality starts come to an end on Saturday afternoon at Kauffman Stadium, where Floyd was touched up for five runs on four hits over 5 1/3 innings. Entering that start, Floyd held a 4-1 record and a miniscule 1.39 ERA his past eight starts. Against the Royals, Floyd pitched no-hit ball for four innings but gave up two runs in the fifth and was charged with three runs in the sixth. Two of those runs scored on Alberto Callaspo's two-out single off reliever Matt Thornton in the sixth. Floyd has not faced the Twins this year but has a 3-3 career mark against them. He sits at 1-2 with a 4.32 lifetime ERA at the Metrodome.

Glen Perkins missed his last start due to sickness, but will take the ball for the Twins on Saturday night against the White Sox looking for his third straight win.

Twins probable pitcher

Glen Perkins

  • #15 LHP
  • (4-4) 4.38 ERA 35 SO
Perkins was scratched from his start on Wednesday because of an illness, so the hope now is that he can take this start. If not, it will likely be given as a spot start to one of the club's relievers -- either Brian Duensing, Bobby Keppel or R.A. Dickey. As for Perkins, he became a dominant ground-ball pitcher in his last start against the Royals when he allowed just one run over seven innings. A total of 16 of Perkins' 21 outs came via a ground ball. Perkins said he had his sinker working in the start and that allowed him also to get three double plays turned behind him. The left-hander went 2-0 and allowed just two runs over 14 innings in two starts on the club's last road trip.

White Sox 8, Twins 7

Brian and Jim show

The White Sox got to Twins starter Glen Perkins early with three runs through the first two innings, highlighted by Brian Anderson's RBI double. Jim Thome did the rest with four RBIs, including a three-run double in the sixth. Gavin Floyd made two mistakes, two homers to Joe Crede.

Crede not enough

The Twins had trouble getting started until Joe Crede was able to take a Gavin Floyd offering deep for a three-run homer in the fifth inning and a solo shot in the seventh. That was all that Minnesota could mount until a ninth-inning rally plated two runs on Jose Morales' single.
