Jays not shocked by Rios move

Jose Bautista had talked to Alex Rios about the possibility of being traded by the Blue Jays. After all, the rumors and reports had been out for a few days that the White Sox were awarded a waiver claim on the right fielder.

Blue Jays probable pitcher

Scott Richmond

  • #48 RHP
  • (6-6) 3.97 ERA 73 SO
Richmond will take the hill at Yankee Stadium for his first start for the Blue Jays since July 31 -- his first outing after a month-long stay on the disabled list with a sore right arm. In that outing against the A's, the 29-year-old rookie allowed six runs (four earned) on seven hits over just three innings. Richmond needed 86 pitches to get through the performance, during which he struck out two and walked two en route to a loss.

Tex emerges as early MVP candidate

Whether or not Mark Teixeira has played well enough to be the American League's MVP will be decided on paper, after his first year in New York is complete. But through more than four months of the season -- one of which was spent floundering through a massive slump -- Teixeira has emerged as a leading candidate.

Yankees probable pitcher

Joba Chamberlain

  • #62 RHP
  • (8-2) 3.73 ERA 102 SO
Chamberlain looks to rebound from a so-so start against the Red Sox on Thursday, when he burned up 108 pitches in five innings, logging the victory with the benefit of an eight-run fourth inning. Chamberlain allowed four runs on six hits to Boston, walking a season-high seven as he appeared to be too strong with extra rest. Chamberlain is trying for his fifth consecutive win and has not lost since June 18. Since the All-Star Break, he is 4-0 with a 2.02 ERA in four starts.

Dingers deny Jays

Lyle Overbay hit a three-run double in the third and Randy Ruiz homered in the fourth, which looked to be enough for Scott Richmond. But reliever Jesse Carlson allowed back-to-back homers in a four-run Yankees eighth, and the Jays fell despite Edwin Encarnacion's tater in the ninth.

Jacks spark attack

Blanked for five innings after taking an early lead, the Yanks reclaimed their advantage in a four-run eighth, thanks to back-to-back homers by Hideki Matsui and Jorge Posada. The go-ahead shot by Posada barely cleared the wall in right field, and it was upheld after a short review.
