Sabathia will try for his fourth consecutive victory as the Yankees play the second game of a three-game series with the A's on Tuesday. Sabathia was dominant his last time out, limiting the Mariners to one run on three hits in eight innings on Thursday at Safeco Field, walking two and striking out a season-high 10 batters. Over his past two starts, Sabathia has seemed to find a new gear, going 2-0 with a 0.57 ERA while striking out 19 and limiting opponents to a .100 batting average. Sabathia beat the A's on July 23 in New York and took a no-decision on April 22 against them.

Everidge eyes improved swing

Struggling rookie first baseman Tommy Everidge got most of the night off Monday, and it's unclear if he'll be in the lineup for the A's on Tuesday for the second game of a three-game series against the visiting Yankees.

Stay by the Bay goes Sabathia's way (75-45) (53-66)

Yanks first to 75

Vallejo, Calif., native CC Sabathia enjoyed his finest start at the Oakland Coliseum, throwing eight innings of two-run ball. In the first, Sabathia threw behind Kurt Suzuki, who followed with a homer, but the lefty recovered to help the Yanks become the first team to 75 victories. New York used a five-run sixth to ensure Sabathia's 14th win.

Sloppy play hurts

Errors hampered the A's during Vin Mazzaro's five solid innings, and a passed ball, a hit-by-pitch and two walks didn't help in a five-run sixth inning. Kurt Suzuki went deep one pitch after nearly being hit by CC Sabathia, and Tommy Everidge homered in the second, but Oakland was stifled after that.
