Holland allowed one earned run over 5 1/3 innings against the Twins on Thursday, throwing 83 pitches, 57 of which were strikes. It was his career-high third consecutive win. Holland is now 4-2 with a 2.95 ERA over his past seven starts since the All-Star break, lowering his ERA from 5.97 to 4.72. Though his final line didn't come off as impressive, Pettitte pitched into the sixth inning against the Red Sox on Friday and turned in a better outing than the numbers indicated. He was nevertheless hit by the Red Sox for seven runs (five earned) on seven hits, walking two and striking out four. Pettitte last faced the Rangers on June 3 in New York, allowing four runs on seven hits over five innings as he took a 4-2 loss. The lefty has reached double digits in wins in 14 of his 15 Major League seasons and with 188 career wins with New York is one shy of tying Lefty Gomez (189) for third in club history.
