By selecting New York over returning to his hometown of Severna Park, Md., Mark Teixeira appears to have made the right choice.

Yankees probable pitcher

A.J. Burnett

  • #34 RHP
  • (10-8) 4.10 ERA 153 SO
Burnett has not won in six starts, a streak he will try to snap on Tuesday at Camden Yards. In his last outing, Burnett allowed just two hits in his last start, but one of them was a big mistake that saddled him with a loss -- a three-run homer to Ian Kinsler. It was a step in the right direction but still yielded the same result as each of his last three starts, a span in which he has gone 0-3 with a 7.11 ERA (15 earned runs in 19 innings). Burnett last faced the Orioles on July 22 in New York, recording the victory in a 6-4 Yankees win (7.0 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K's).

New-look O's continue set with Yanks

The Orioles will add some new blood on Tuesday, the first day for roster expansion around the league.

Orioles probable pitcher

David Hernandez

  • #63 RHP
  • (4-6) 4.24 ERA 43 SO
Hernandez shrugged off a run of ineffective outings in his last start, when he worked six strong innings and left the game with a lead. Cleveland later battled back to stick him with a no-decision. Hernandez worked to a 5.83 ERA in August but is 2-4 with a 4.46 ERA since the All-Star break, and the Orioles will watch the rookie right-hander closely all the way through September.

Bronx Bombers barrage Baltimore (84-48) (54-79)

Yankees 9, Orioles 6

Yankees extend streak

The Yanks won their fifth game in a row by living up to their Bronx Bombers moniker and blasting five homers. Robinson Cano slugged a two-run shot, Jorge Posada belted his 18th and 19th homers of the season and Nick Swisher and Eric Hinske went back-to-back in the seventh.

Homers doom O's

The Orioles found themselves embroiled in back-and-forth shootout with the Yankees on Tuesday night, but ran out of firepower after a three-run homer by Luke Scott in the sixth. O's pitchers struggled to keep to the ball in the yard, as the Yankees belted five home runs on the night.
