A welcome sight will be on the mound for the Red Sox on Friday night. The Josh Beckett of old is ready to make his playoff debut.

The ace turned in another solid season, his fourth with the Red Sox. But October has always been Beckett's favorite time of year. In 2003, he led the Marlins to a World Series championship, firing a shutout in Game 6 at Yankee Stadium. Beckett had a 1.10 ERA in his two World Series starts that year. He was every bit as dominant for the Red Sox in October 2007, going 4-0 with a 1.20 ERA in his four postseason starts. Last year, Beckett was badly hindered by an oblique injury, going 1-0 with an 8.79 ERA in three October starts. But he finishes this season healthy and optimistic. Beckett, however, had an ordinary second half, going 6-3 with a 4.53 ERA in 14 starts. A four-star slump in August brought down his overall numbers. The righty was 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in two starts against the Angels.

The season put in by Angels ALDS Game 2 starter Jered Weaver was a tale of two halves, but the righty's dominance at home never wavered.

Seventh heavenly for Halos (0-2) (2-0)
Angels 4, Red Sox 1
Fresh off a blanking in Game 1, the Red Sox again struggled at the plate and are stuck in do-or-die mode heading home to Fenway Park. Victor Martinez's RBI single in the third gave Boston a short-lived lead, but the Sox didn't cross the plate again.

In the seventh, Maicer Izturis ripped an RBI single and Erick Aybar followed later in the frame with a two-run triple to propel the Angels squarely into the series driver's seat. Jered Weaver sparkled on the hill as the Halos took care of business at home.
