MIN@SEA: Noesi fans five, allows one run in a win

The Mariners were hoping ace Felix Hernandez would be able to turn around their road woes on Wednesday. But after the Indians hit the dynamic right-hander all around Progressive Field, Seattle is forced to turn to Hector Noesi.

The young righty will take the mound for the Mariners as they try for the split of a short, two-game series in Cleveland on Thursday. He will face Indians right-hander Zach McAllister.

Noesi has been erratic this season, and is coming off an outing in New York in which he gave up four extra-base hits in a four-run fourth inning. He was able to steady himself and went seven innings, giving up six hits and five runs. That gave Mariners manager Eric Wedge some positives to take out of Noesi's start.

"If you look at that game, four or five of the six hits were with two strikes and four of them were for damage -- like three doubles and a homer," Wedge said. "And that was the difference. But what he did, he fixed it. He started putting hitters away and the next thing you know, he becomes pretty efficient against a very good club and got deep into the ballgame."

But the Indians offense won't make it easy on Noesi. They've scored a combined 19 runs during their current three-game winning streak. Cleveland pounded out 14 hits, Wednesday, in a 9-3 win over Seattle and four players recorded two hits, while Shin-Soo Choo had three out of the leadoff spot.

Choo has now gone 6-for-18 (.333) in three games from the leadoff spot. He also has two doubles, a home run, two RBIs and four runs from the top of the order.

Mariners: Errorless streak snapped
The Mariners' streak of 10 straight games without an error was snapped in the first inning on Wednesday when catcher Jesus Montero overthrew third base on a pickoff attempt. Chone Figgins later recorded an error, as well.

Indians: Cabrera continues to hit
Asdrubal Cabrera's two-hit performance on Wednesday marked his team-leading 12th multi-hit game. Cabrera raised his average to .325, which is good for seventh in the American League.

Worth noting
• Kyle Seager is 17-for-34 (.500) in his career against the Indians. He has recorded a hit in all eight games he's faced Cleveland.

• Wednesday's matchup will be the fifth this season between the two teams, with the Indians leading the series 3-1. The two clubs will face off in Seattle once more this season (Aug. 20-22).
