Kendrick shuts out Cardinals on seven hits

While Kyle Kendrick's numbers may not show it, the Phillies right-hander has continued to give the club a chance to win as he's bounced in and out of the starting rotation this season.

Kendrick has a record of 2-4 to go along with a 4.02 ERA, but he's given up two earned runs or fewer in five of his six starts this season.

He'll try and do just that come Wednesday against the Dodgers at Citizens Bank Park as he looks for his third straight win.

The righty tossed 5 1/3 innings on Friday against the Marlins, surrendering just two runs on eight hits while striking out four.

Kendrick will be up against Dodgers left-hander Chris Capuano, who took just his second loss of the season on Friday against the Rockies.

Lasting 5 1/3 innings, Capuano gave up seven runs -- four earned -- on seven hits to fall to 7-2 on the season with a 2.50 ERA.

Capuano felt his struggles in the game came down to trying to be too fine with his pitches.

"I wasn't really happy with the way I handled it mentally out there," Capuano said after the start. "I was getting real frustrated with myself. From the first pitch in the bullpen, my command was just off. For me, it was kind of a grind mentally, and I don't think I handled it very well."

Dodgers: Guerra undergoes surgery
• Reliever Javy Guerra underwent arthroscopic right knee surgery Tuesday to repair a small tear of the lateral meniscus and will be sidelined four to six weeks. Dodgers team physician Neal ElAttrache performed the surgery.

Guerra was placed on the disabled list Monday with an injury believed to be sustained when he was hit by a Brian McCann line drive in the jaw on April 25.

"Sue said the doc was happy with it," manager Don Mattingly said, referring to trainer Sue Falsone. "There wasn't any other damage. He'll be back playing catch quick. A few days and he'll be throwing again."

• Third baseman Juan Uribe will fly back to Los Angeles on Wednesday and start a three-game rehabilitation assignment with Class A Rancho Cucamonga, with his anticipated activation from the disabled list Monday.

Phillies: Bush opts out of contract
Dave Bush, who has been pitching for the Phillies' Triple-A Lehigh Valley affiliate this season, has opted out of his contract to sign with a team in Korea, according to a report from Comcast SportsNet.

Bush, 32, signed a Minor League deal in December after spending the 2011 season with the Rangers, appearing in 17 big league games (three starts).

The right-hander went 0-1 with a 5.79 ERA last season and is 56-69 with a 4.70 ERA in his eight big league seasons (five with the Brewers, two with the Blue Jays and one with the Rangers).

Worth noting
• Phillies outfielder Juan Pierre needs to score one more run to reach 1,000 for his career.

• When their opponent scores first, the Phillies are 7-16.

• Dodgers shortstop Dee Gordon is batting .313 (16-for-51) with seven runs, a double, a triple and two RBIs in his last 14 games.
