Coming off two postponed games and a snow delay before the start of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Rockies, it's no wonder the Mets started off frosty at the plate.
The Mets only knocked eight hits in their Game 1 loss, then fell again in extras after a rally by the Rockies led to a 9-8 loss. New York has played in temperatures in the mid-30s for six consecutive games.
Jeremy Hefner will try to warm them up Wednesday, as the Mets push for a win at 6:40 p.m. MT at Coors Field. It could be a challenge for the starter, as he tries to shake off the rust from not playing in a week.
Hefner's last game came in much warmer conditions, as he notched his second loss after giving up five runs over three innings against the Phillies.
It's been that sort of early sophomore season for the right-hander, who has yet to earn a win while allowing a combined six earned runs off 11 hits and three homers.
Jon Garland will make the start for Colorado after finishing with a no-decision against the Padres last Friday. Garland was strong in his first start against San Diego on April 6, allowing just two runs in a win, but he yielded three runs in six innings of his latest start. Garland has been stellar against the Mets over his career. The right-hander is 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA over 33 innings.
Rockies: Fowler's X-rays are negative
After fouling a ball off his foot Sunday, Dexter Fowler sat out both games of the doubleheader on Tuesday. Fowler's X-rays were negative, which is good news for Colorado, as the outfielder has been a boon for the club with six homers, 14 hits and seven walks this season.
Mets: Duda exits with back tightness
Mets outfielder Lucas Duda was pulled in Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader. The left-handed hitter had gone 2-for-5 in the two games before experiencing lower back tightness.
A delay could be in the cards again as the Rockies and Mets face off Wednesday. More snow is expected before the matchup.
