    Morrow unfazed by shoulder stiffness

Mariners closer Brandon Morrow chalked up his most recent bout of shoulder discomfort to normal stiffness, and may be available for Tuesday's doubleheader vs. the White Sox.

    Mariners probable pitcher

    Chris Jakubauskas

    • #41 RHP
    • (1-2) 7.11 ERA 6 SO
The rookie right-hander absorbed his first major thumping of the season -- including Spring Training -- in his last outing. Making his second start in place of the injured Ryan Rowland-Smith, Jakubauskas surrendered 10 hits and six runs in 3 1/3 innings against the Rays. The pinpoint control he displayed throughout Spring Training and three regular-season outings, was missing.

Judging by the high praise heaped upon Ken Griffey Jr. from his former teammates in Chicago, one of the game's all-time great players left a lifetime of memories during his 2 1/2-month stay. He'll be reunited with his former teammates Tuesday.

    Bartolo Colon

    • #40 RHP
    • (1-1) 6.14 ERA 6 SO
Colon's last effort, on Thursday at Baltimore, was a disaster. He exited after the third inning, having thrown 63 pitches, and was knocked around Camden Yards by the Orioles. Manager Ozzie Guillen said the early hook was to preserve Colon for later in the season, but Colon won't make it that far unless he improves -- and quickly. Lifetime against the Mariners, Colon is 13-11 with a 4.30 ERA in 28 career starts.

    White Sox 2, Mariners 1

    Mariners drop duel

Chris Jakubauskas pitched masterfully for eight innings, holding the White Sox hitless until their two-run, fourth-inning outburst and retiring 24 of 27 hitters faced. Rob Johnson's RBI double in the seventh inning plated the lone run.

    Starter locks in

Bartolo Colon mystified Seattle through seven innings, allowing just one unearned one on four hits, in a nice rebound performance. Paul Konerko's two-out, two-run double provided just enough cushion in the doubleheader opener.
