When the lights come on at Citi Field for the second game of Tuesday's twin bill, Haeger, even though he's only pitching one game, will still be helping his team by making the start on three days' rest. That way, the Dodgers can keep Jon Link an extra day for bullpen use.
Haeger will try to bounce back from a Friday loss in Washington in which he allowed two homers to Adam Dunn, and manager Joe Torre is not entertaining thoughts of removing him from the rotation in the meantime.
"Right now, when you look at the final numbers, he kept us in the game," Torre said of Haeger's last outing. "Yeah, I have no reason to change anything right now. He has some versatility. But until somebody pops up and shows something different, I have no plans to change."
Perez, meanwhile, will try to rebound from a loss to the Cubs in which he allowed 11 baserunners in five innings, including seven in an 11-batter sequence in his last two frames, while only letting three runs score.
Perez seemed encouraged by the fact that he was able to use offspeed pitches to get out of trouble.
"If I don't have my fastball ... I didn't have good location on my fastball ... I have to throw [offspeed pitches] more," he said. "They helped me."
Mets: Wright back to power game
Mets third baseman David Wright is showing a resurgence of power this year, with three home runs already compared to the 10 he hit all of last year. With that has come strikeouts, though. Wright on Sunday extended a streak of games with a strikeout to 12, a personal high. ... Perez is 6-5 with a 3.86 ERA in 12 career starts against the Dodgers.
Dodgers: Injured players take steps
Reliever Jeff Weaver threw a 50-pitch bullpen session Monday and said he felt fine and expected to throw off the mound every other day until he is eligible to be activated on May 7. Weaver is a likely candidate to then replace the injured Vicente Padilla in the rotation. ... The Dodgers had little to report Monday on the health of injured outfielder Manny Ramirez and Padilla. Ramirez, who reported to Dodger Stadium on Sunday for treatment on his strained right calf, was scheduled for an afternoon appointment in Los Angeles with Dr. Neal ElAttrache, a likely MRI and possibly a platelet-rich plasma injection, the new treatment of choice for soft-tissue injuries. At the time Torre spoke with the media after Monday night's game was rained out, the club had not heard from ElAttrache, nor had it received the results of an MRI taken earlier in the day in New York on Padilla's right forearm.
Torre still wouldn't announce a pitcher for Wednesday. Candidates to take the start of disabled right-hander Vicente Padilla include Double-A righty Jesus Castillo, Triple-A right-hander Josh Towers and Triple-A left-hander Scott Elbert. ... Only tickets marked "April 27 - Game 15" will be honored for the doubleheader. Tickets from the postponed Monday night game are not valid for admission Tuesday. Fans can exchange tickets in person Tuesday at Citi Field for the doubleheader or for a later date, subject to availability and according to the standard rain-check ticket exchange policy on Mets.com.
