When they meet the Dodgers in the second game of a three-game National League West showdown, they'll be marking the one-year anniversary of manager Jim Tracy taking over for Clint Hurdle.
Even with the Rockies' loss on Friday night, it's been some kind of year. Colorado went 74-42 under Tracy last season to grab the NL Wild Card -- finishing second in the West to the Dodgers.
The next victory for Tracy will be his 100th in purple pinstripes. He heads into the game 99-65.
Tracy, of course, managed the Dodgers from 2001-2005 and went 427-383.
In the tight-knit NL West, the second-place Dodgers doubled their lead over the third-place Rockies to two games with Friday's victory.
Dodgers catcher Russell Martin will not start in Saturday's contest, and A.J. Ellis will replace him. Ellis has only started five games since being called up from Triple-A Albuquerque on April 10, and only eight in his career. Offensively, Ellis has four hits in 16 at-bats with five RBIs this season.
Dodgers Manager Joe Torre explained his decision to sit out Martin.
"I'll give him the night game off before the day game, because of the matchups," Torre said.
Rest may have been part of the issue, but Martin is 1-for-18 against Rockies starter Aaron Cook in his career.
Dodgers: Kuroda eliminating walks
The Dodgers will send Hiroki Kuroda to the mound for Saturday's contest. In his last start, he allowed three runs in the first inning but managed to hold the Tigers scoreless through the next five innings. The last time he faced the Rockies earlier this month, he uncharacteristically walked five batters, but in his last three starts, he has walked only one batter per start. In four career starts against the Rockies, he is 0-2 with a 6.94 ERA. Kuroda's turn in the rotation should have come up Friday, but Torre wanted to give him an extra day of rest. Kuroda is looking for his sixth win of the season and to maintain his 3.03 ERA.
Rockies: Cook looks to get something going
In his last start, Cook didn't allow a run to the Royals until the fifth inning, when he gave up four runs before being pulled. Cook has struggled with his command, amassing 25 walks and 25 strikeouts in 50 2/3 innings. In his career, Cook is 5-7 with a 4.25 ERA when facing the Dodgers. The hard-throwing right-hander is looking to improve his 1-3 record and lower his 5.40 ERA.
Clint Barmes' home run on Friday night extended the Rockies' steak of consecutive games with a home run to 10 -- their longest stretch this season ... Ryan Spilborghs on Thursday recorded his first RBI since May 2. ... Manny Ramirez's home run in Friday night's Dodgers victory was No. 549 on his career, passing Phillies Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt for 14th on the all-time list. ... Rockies setup man Taylor Buchholz's return from right elbow surgery hit a snag when he suffered lower back stiffness and had to be pulled from his Minor League injury rehab assignment. ... Second baseman Kazuo Matsui, a crowd favorite during the Rockies' 2007 run to the World Series who has returned to the organization at Triple-A Colorado Springs, drove in the winning run in the Sky Sox's come-from-behind, 9-8 victory over Portland on Friday night. Matsui hit a fielder's choice grounder in the bottom of the ninth. Recently released by the Astros, Matsui went 1-for-2 and drove in two runs.

Rockies' 1-2 punch knocks out Dodgers
Carlos Gonzalez and Seth Smith -- the Nos. 1 and 2 hitters -- combined for four RBIs and three runs and Aaron Cook pitched 6 1/3 solid innings, giving Jim Tracy the 100th victory of his tenure in Colorado.
