On Wednesday, Atlanta's Jair Jurrjens and Colorado starter Esmil Rogers will take up the fight, and both are hoping to go the distance.
Jurrjens has seen the Braves win eight of the 10 games he's started since returning from the disabled list. He has gone 2-0 with a 2.30 ERA, despite allowing opponents to compile a .307 on-base percentage in four starts this month.
Rogers has been improving and will have help in the form of veteran Todd Helton. Helton went 4-for-4 on Monday, recording four hits for the first time this season and is eight for his last 16 with two doubles and two RBIs. He has hits in 10 of 16 games since coming off the DL on Aug. 3, going 16-for-55 in that span.
"He is the consummate professional," Rockies manager Jim Tracy said. "Even with the credibility he's established for himself, he puts on no airs. He expects no preferential treatment whatsoever."
Helton could provide the lift the Rockies need down the stretch. He leads all NL hitters with 4.42 pitches per plate appearance.
"When your best player on the team is the hardest worker on the team, there are very few questions that have to be asked about how we go about our business day to day around here," Tracy said. "Take a look, watch what's going on around you and you'll get an idea of what we're all about here. Todd Helton is, and has been for a long period of time around here, the foundation of that."
Rogers had a career outing in his last time out, giving up one run on six hits in 6 1/3 innings against the D-backs.
Braves: Heyward playing through pain
Jason Heyward said he is still bothered by the right thumb injury that plagued him in June and sidelined him for the two weeks leading up to the All-Star break. ... Since being acquired by the Braves, Alex Gonzalez has compiled a .267 batting average with 14 extra-base hits -- nine doubles, two triples and three homers. ... The Braves are 19-20 in one-run games this season. ... Martin Prado has hit safely in six of eight games since being activated from the disabled list.
Rockies: Young heating up since return
Eric Young Jr. started at second base Tuesday and went 3-for-4. He has started every game since returning from Triple-A Colorado Springs. ... Colorado reliever Rafael Betancourt is nursing a strained abdomen and was to play catch before Tuesday's game.
Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez is one of just three players in the Major Leagues to lead his team in both home runs and stolen bases this season. He joins Shin-Soo Choo, who leads Cleveland with 15 home runs and 15 stolen bases, and Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols, who leads his team with 33 homers and 12 stolen bases.

Braves hang 10, but Rox hang them with loss
Falling behind by nine didn't faze the Rockies, who scored 11 unanswered and got a go-ahead, two-out RBI from Troy Tulowitzki in the eighth frame to sweep the Braves. Brian McCann had four hits for Atlanta in the loss.
