Los Angeles has taken the first two games of the series from Milwaukee and now stands in line to walk out of town with a sweep, with or without Manny.
The Dodgers' slugger was reportedly placed on waivers on Wednesday and could be on the move soon. The White Sox are reported to have interest in acquiring the slugger for their playoff run, but other teams have also been cited as a good landing spot for Ramirez. His teammates and coaches are aware that any game could potentially be his last in Dodger Blue.
"Manny's a great hitter," outfielder Jay Gibbons said. "He could certainly help any team offensively. It would definitely be tough to lose a guy like that."
Regardless of Manny's status, the Dodgers are suddenly playing pretty good baseball while winning three of the last four. Los Angeles enters Thursday still very much alive in the playoff picture at 5 1/2 games out of the Wild Card.
The Dodgers' offense, which has been producing much better lately, will square off with Brewers talented young pitcher Yovani Gallardo. He has stumbled of late though, allowing 14 earned runs in his last three outings, including six in his last start against the Padres.
"It just was one of those days for me," Gallardo said. "It got out of hand. They put up some runs in the first inning for me after I gave up three, and they kept battling. I give them a lot of props."
Thanks to his teammates, Gallardo's record hasn't suffered during his struggles. He can only hope that he will get similar run support against the Dodgers as the Brew Crew tries to finish off the series on a high note.
Dodgers: Monasterios gets the nod
Right-hander Carlos Monasterios will make just his 10th start of the season on Thursday to accommodate a switch made in the rotation to push Chad Billingsley back a bit. In his last start against the Reds, Monasterios allowed one earned run in 4 1/3 innings, but took the loss partly due to his own crucial throwing error.
"Overall, I didn't feel that bad," he said. "I tried to contribute to the team and it's disappointing I wasn't able to do that."
Brewers: McGehee eyes the record book
Despite going 0-for-3 on Wednesday night, Casey McGehee continued his statistical assault in the month of August with a sacrifice fly. It was the slugger's 26th RBI this month, tops in the Majors. He's nearing the team record for RBIs in August. That mark of 32 is held by Gorman Thomas, who accomplished the feat in 1979, and Cecil Cooper, who did it again in '80. McGehee now has 84 RBIs on the season.
The Dodgers are now 3-2 against the Brewers this season. Milwaukee hasn't finished a season with a winning record against Los Angeles since 2000.

Combined two-hitter helps LA pick up steam
The Dodgers got three hits from fill-in Scott Podsednik and a two-run homer from Casey Blake as their pitching staff held the Brewers to two hits, earning LA's first three-game sweep in Milwaukee since 2003.
