This Day in Baseball History
January 18, 1969 > The Washington Senators name Hall of Famer Ted Williams to be their new manager. The former Boston superstar signs a five-year contract worth a reported $75,000 per season. Under Williams' leadership, the Senators will rebound from a 65-96 last place finish in 1968 to post a franchise-best 86-76 record in 1969.
