On Jan. 28, 1958, Brooklyn Dodgers star Roy Campanella suffered a broken neck and a damaged spinal cord in an early morning car accident. The incident left Campanella with permanent paralysis of his legs, ending his playing days. Campanella starred for 10 seasons with the Dodgers, hitting 242 home runs and earning five All-Star team selections. Prior to making his Major League debut, Campanella starred for the Baltimore Elite Giants of the Negro Leagues.
