 Fourth Week in February
On Feb. 25, 1972, the St. Louis Cardinals traded future Hall of Famer Steve Carlton to the Philadelphia Phillies for veteran right-hander Rick Wise. The trade would prove to be one of the best in the history of the Philadelphia franchise, as Carlton would win an amazing 27 games for the last-place Phillies in 1972 on his way toward capturing four National League Cy Young awards. In 1983, Carlton wore the jersey pictured here when he won his 300th career game -- coincidentally against his former team, the Cardinals. |
