Fourth Week in March
On March 30, 1992, the Chicago Cubs made one of their best trades ever, acquiring 23-year-old outfielder Sammy Sosa and pitcher Ken Patterson from the Chicago White Sox for veteran outfielder George Bell. While Bell's career lasted only two more seasons, Sosa eventually became an All-Star right fielder with the Cubs. In 1998, when Sosa wore the batting gloves depicted here, he captured national attention by hitting 66 home runs and earning National League MVP honors. Yet, Sosa was not a mere one-year wonder. He hit 63 home runs and piled up 141 RBIs the following season, when he wore the Cubs cap pictured here. |
