Second Week in April
On April 8, 1974, Atlanta Braves superstar Hank Aaron wore this jersey when he captivated a nationwide audience and achieved one of the greatest milestones in baseball history. Batting in the fourth inning in the Braves' home opener at Fulton County Stadium, Aaron faced veteran left-hander Al Downing. With the count 1-and-0, Downing threw a slider, which Aaron blasted over the left-field fence. Aaron's 715th home run -- caught in the bullpen by Braves reliever Tom House -- shattered Babe Ruth's all-time record, making "Hammerin' Hank" the game's new home run king. The historic moment resulted in a wild, game-delaying celebration, in which Aaron addressed the crowd over a microphone. The future Hall of Famer would finish his career with a total of 755 home runs, which remained the most in Major League history for 33 years.
