Baseball Hall of FameFirst Week in May
On May 1, 1991, Nolan Ryan of the Texas Rangers wore the cap pictured here when he achieved one of the game's more remarkable milestones, pitching an unprecedented seventh career no-hitter. The 44-year-old Ryan, who defeated the Toronto Blue Jays, 3-0, also became the oldest pitcher to hurl a no-hit game. Ryan's final masterpiece -- which closed his no-hit ledger at seven and placed him three ahead of Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax on the all-time list -- included 16 strikeouts and only two walks. Coincidentally, Ryan's no-hitter also overshadowed another significant moment that took place earlier in the day, when Rickey Henderson of the Oakland A's became the Major Leagues' all-time leader in stolen bases.
