Baseball Hall of FameSecond Week in June
On June 17, 1960, Ted Williams of the Boston Red Sox became the fourth Major League player to hit 500 home runs. Williams' milestone two-run shot against Wynn Hawkins helped the Boston Red Sox to a 3-1 win over the Indians at Cleveland's Municipal Stadium. The "Splendid Splinter," who donned the jersey and glove pictured here during the 1960 season, joined fellow Hall of Famers Babe Ruth, Jimmie Foxx and Mel Ott in the exclusive home run club. Williams would finish his career with 521 home runs.
