Baseball Hall of FameSecond Week in July
On July 10, 1934, in one of the most memorable All-Star Game performances ever, Carl Hubbell struck out five consecutive future Hall of Famers. The New York Giants ace, who featured a devastating screwball, fanned American League stars Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons and Joe Cronin in succession. Pitching in front of his home fans at the Polo Grounds, the veteran left-hander picked up a no-decision in a game won by the American League, 9-7. Hubbell, who was nicknamed "The King," later received the Seagram's crown (pictured here) for winning 24 consecutive decisions in 1936 and '37.
