Baseball Hall of FameFirst Week in September
On Sept. 8, 1998, Mark McGwire of the St. Louis Cardinals broke what is arguably the game's most prestigious single-season record: Roger Maris' longstanding mark of 61 home runs. Playing in front of a capacity crowd at St. Louis' Busch Stadium, McGwire hit his 62nd home run in the fourth inning of the Cards' 6-3 win over the Chicago Cubs. McGwire's blast came against Cubs starter Steve Trachsel.
