October 6

1926 ... Babe Ruth hits 3 homers, leading the New York Yankees to a 10-5 victory over the St Louis Cardinals in the fourth game of the World Series.

October 7

1950 ... New York Yankees legend Whitey Ford wins his first World Series game, 5-2, over Bob Miller at Yankee Stadium. The sweep of the Phillies gives the Yankees their 13th championship.

October 8

1965 ... New York Yankees righthander Don Larsen throws a perfect game to defeat the Brooklyn Dodgers 2-0 in Game 5 of the World Series. It is the only perfect game in World Series history, and helps propell the Yankees to victory in the series, four game to three.

October 9

1916 ... The Boston Red Sox behind a great performance by pitcher Babe Ruth beat the Brookly Dodgers 2-1 in 14 innings. This was the longest World Series game ever.

October 10

1924 ... The Washington Senators clinched their first and only World Series Championship with a 4-3 win over the Giants.

October 11

1975 ... In the first game of the World Series, the Red Sox stifle the Big Red Machine and stomp the Reds, 6-0.

October 12

1982 ... The Milwaukee Brewers play their first World Series game in team history. Paul Molitor establishes a Series single game record with 5 hits, Robin Yount adds 4, and pitcher Mike Caldwell deals a three-hitter in a 10-0 victory over the St Louis Cardinals. The Cards wind up winning the World Seies in seven games.

October 13

1971 ... The first night game in World Series history was played between the Pirates and the Orioles. The Pirates won the game 4-3 behind 3 hits by Roberto Clemente.

October 14

1984 ... The Detroit Tigers win the World Series over the San Diego Padres. Kirk Gibson led the charge with two homers in the 8-4 victory.

October 15

1988 ... In one of the most memorable moments in World Series History, a hobbled Kirk Gibson pinch hits a two-run, walk off homer in the bottom of the ninth to give the Dodgers a 1-0 series lead.

October 16

1969 ... The New York Mets win the World Series with a 5-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles.

October 17

1989 ... A large earthquake shook the Bay Area of Northern California just before Game 3 of the World Series was scheduled to begin between the San Francisco Giants and the Oakland A's. The series was postponed for 11 days.

October 18

1977 ... Mr. October, Reggie Jackson, slams three straight home runs off the Los Angeles Dodgers to secure an 8-4 victory and yet another World Series title for the New York Yankees.

October 20

1990 ... The Cincinnati Reds shock the world with a series sweep over the heavily favored Oakland A's.

October 21

1975 ... Carlton Fisk willed his 12th inning homer fair as the Boston Red Sox defeat the Cincinnati Reds to force a game 7 in the World Series.

October 22

1975 ... A ninth inning RBI single by Joe Morgan gives the Big Red Machine its first World Series Title in 35 years.

October 23

1995 ... A walk-off homer by Joe Carter of the Blue Jays wins the World Series over the Phillies in one of the most dramatic endings in the history of the fall classic.

October 25

1986... A routine grounder is misplayed by Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner and the Mets rally to score 3 runs in the 10th to force a game 7.

1987... Frank Viola pitches the Minnesota Twins to a 4-2 win over the Cardinals in game 7 of the World Series. It is the first championship for the Twins.

October 26

1996 ... The Yankees win the World Series for the first time since 1978.

October 27

1985 ... The Kansas City Royals beat the St. Louis Cardinals 11-0 to clinch the World Series title.
