The Cubs have been a National League team ever
since 1876, but they weren't the Cubs then. They were the
Chicago White Stockings until the early 1900s, when a
local newspaper came up with the nickname "the Cubs"
because of the young players they had. The last World
Series they won were in 1907 and 1908.
Ever since then, they've been coming close to the
World Series, but they haven't been in one since 1945.
That was the year when a Cub fan walks to Wrigley Field
with a Billy Goat. He asked if he could go into Wrigley
field with his goat. The people at Wrigley said he
couldn't go in. So he cursed this team until they let his
goat in. After every season cub fans say, wait until next
year!
The Cubs have had great players like Ernie
Banks and Hack
Wilson. You can read about both of them in
this section, along with six other great Cubs. Also in
this section there's our choices for the
Cubs' all-time team, an interview
with a long time Cubs fan and the history of
Wrigley
Field.
