Statistically speaking: Escobar won the Venezuelan League batting title this winter with a .393 average. He also finished third in steals with 16 and fifth in OBP (.440). Not that it's a surprise. He finished third in batting and tied for second in steals in the Southern League in 2008 while placing third in steals in the PCL this past season.
Scouting report: Escobar uses his plus speed on both sides of the ball. He legs out many infield hits and is a real threat on the basepaths. He's got future leadoff potential, especially if he can continue to work on his plate discipline. Defensively, he is a plus-plus, in terms of his range, his arm, his hands and his natural instincts to play the position.
Upside potential: The Escobar era begins this year, and he has the chance to be a game-changer with his speed at the top of the lineup eventually, and definitely with his glove in the infield.
