Statistically speaking: Moustakas led the Midwest League in home runs (22) at age 19. He hit 13 of them after the All-Star break, when he raised his .228 first-half average (.190 in April) to .321 in the second half. He slugged .557 in the second half to go along with a .392 OBP.
Scouting report: He has plus, plus bat speed and raw power to all fields. He made a nice transition from shortstop, his high school position, to third base, where his above-average arm strength plays well.
Upside potential: Prototypical All-Star third baseman that hits in the middle of the lineup and competes for home run and RBI titles.
They said it: "Mike is a throwback player who plays the game hard and can hit. He's got plus power but can impact a team with his leadership as well." -- J.J. Picollo, Royals assistant GM, Scouting & Player Development
He said it: "It doesn't matter where I play. As long as I'm in the lineup, I don't really care. I just love to play the game. As long as I'm on the field I'm happy."
