Larry Doby, 1923-2003: Tribute to a pioneer
Larry Doby hits a single at the Polo Grounds in September 1954. In 1947, the year that changed baseball forever, Doby broke the color barrier in the American League when he pinch-hit for the Indians against the Chicago White Sox at Comiskey Park. It was 11 weeks after Jackie Robinson played his first game for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
