Solid Wood does the chopping

Kerry Wood showed he can hit, he can run, he can pitch and he can pirouette. Wood, the Major League leader in strikeouts this season, held the National League's top-hitting team to two hits while striking out 11. His biggest moment, though, was in the sixth, when he smashed a two-run, tiebreaking double to propel the Cubs to victory in Game 1 of the NL Division Series at Turner Field.  Full story >

Russ Ortiz proudly lived on the edge this season, leading the National League in both wins and walks. After displaying Houdini-like skills over the first five innings, his stubborn approach to the strike zone finally caught up with him in the sixth inning, when the Cubs broke through against Ortiz, who was trying to protect a 1-0 lead built on a home run by Marcus Giles.  Full story >
