Peavy struggles in opener
Padres ace Jake Peavy came out throwing strikes, but it wasn't enough to slow down the Cardinals in Game 1. He allowed eight runs on eight hits over 4 1/3 innings, and after the game, learned he had fractured a rib and will miss the rest of the postseason. The Friars did stage a late comeback, scoring three runs in the ninth.
