Eck of a finish for Cards
Redbirds return to NLCS
For the second consecutive year, the Cards are in the NLCS, this time with a sweep of the Padres behind a solid Game 3 outing by Matt Morris and timely hitting from David Eckstein. Morris yielded just two runs over six innings, while Eckstein went 3-for-4 with a two-run blast and scored twice. Reggie Sanders hit a two-run double to set an NLDS record with 10 RBIs.

Pads battle, but get swept
The Padres needed a strong effort from Woody Williams in Game 3 to stay alive in the NLDS, but he lasted just 1 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on six hits as the Friars were eliminated. After falling behind early, San Diego rallied as Eric Young and Mark Loretta hit RBI singles and Dave Roberts and Ramon Hernandez belted solo shots, but it wasn't enough.
