Umpires, Official Scorers announced for 73rd All-Star Game
Veteran Major League Baseball Umpire Gerry Davis will work behind the plate at the 73rd All-Star Game, to be played Tuesday, July 9 at Miller Park in Milwaukee, it was announced today.
Davis, a crew chief in his 19th season as a Major League umpire, has worked two previous All-Star Games. His first was in 1989 at Anaheim Stadium, and most recently, he worked the 1997 Mid-Summer Classic at Jacobs Field in Cleveland. The All-Star umpiring crew in Milwaukee will also include Tim Tschida (1B), Chuck Meriwether (2B), Jerry Meals (3B), Marty Foster (LF) and Paul Emmel (RF).
Tschida, who is in his 17th season of Major League Baseball, was also part of the All-Star crew for the 1992 game in San Diego. Meriwether, a 10-year veteran, will be taking part in his second All-Star Game as well, having worked the 1996 Mid-Summer Classic in Philadelphia. Meals, Foster and Emmel will each be making their first trip to the All-Star Game. Meals has five years of Major League service, while Foster and Emmel are both in their third Major League season.
Official scorers for the 73rd All-Star Game will be BBWAA President Bill Center, Brewers Official Scorer Tim O'Driscoll and Drew Olson from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
The 73rd All-Star Game will be televised nationally by FOX Sports and televised around the world by Major League Baseball International, while ESPN Radio will provide exclusive, national radio coverage. MLB.com will provide extensive online coverage and MLB Radio will provide exclusive play-by-play coverage of the game on the Internet.
