Williams the last man to bat .400

Ted Williams woke up on the final day of the 1941 season with an average of .399955. That rounds out to .400 the way stats are calculated.

But Williams -- a baseball immortal -- had his own way of calculating.

To the sweet-swinging Red Sox superstar, there was no such thing as rounding off to .400. He saved that for the mathematicians. Hitters? They do their work with a bat, not a calculator.
