Cairo's hot hitting ties record
By Paul C. Smith / MLB.com
ST. LOUIS -- Miguel Cairo worked his way into the record books Wednesday night but he doesn't even want to know what page it is.
Before striking out in the eighth inning, Cairo got three straight hits to start the game, making him 7-for-7 in the playoffs.
"I'm just seeing the ball well and trying to hit it hard somewhere," Cairo said.
Go back to last year's playoffs and, with a hit in his final at-bat, Cairo was 8-for-8 in the postseason. That tied a playoff record set by Reggie Jackson and matched by Billy Hatcher.
But, after the game, Cairo wasn't listening to talk about records.
"I don't care who got the record," Cairo said. "We didn't win today, so it didn't count."
