tickets for any Major League Baseball game
The Yankees and Red Sox played each other 19 times this season. The Bombers won 10 times, posting a 5-5 mark at Yankee Stadium and a 5-4 record at Fenway Park. The Yankees hold the advantage in the all-time series with Boston, posting a 1,049-852-14 mark. Here's a closer look at how things played out this season.

May 19 at Boston:
The Yankees and Red Sox opened a series at Fenway Park tied for first place for the first time since Oct. 2, 1978. New York scored five runs in the first inning to take the early lead and held on for a 7-3 victory. David Wells picked up the win, his sixth of the season, a day before his 40th birthday. Raul Mondesi was the offensive force for the Bombers, picking up three RBIs. Game wrapup >

May 20 at Boston:
The Red Sox regained a share of the lead in the American League East after touching up Cuban rookie Jose Contreras for five runs in the seventh inning. It was New York's fourth loss in five games. David Ortiz put the Sox in front with a two-run double off Contreras. Alan Embree got the win, and Brandon Lyon struck out the side in the ninth to earn his sixth save as Boston posted a 10-7 victory. Game wrapup >

May 21 at Boston:
Roger Clemens earned the 299th victory of his career, allowing two runs over six innings while striking out seven in New York's 4-2 triumph. It was Clemens' 99th career win at Fenway Park. Jason Giambi blasted his ninth homer of the season in the first inning to give the Bombers the early lead. Boston's Nomar Garciaparra extended his hitting streak to 22 games. Game wrapup >

May 26 at New York:
Clemens is denied in his bid for career win No. 300 as the Red Sox earn an 8-4 victory. The loss, New York's fifth straight, gave the Sox a 2.5-game lead in the American League East. The start of the game was delayed nearly two hours. When play finally began, Clemens struggled almost from the outset. Tim Wakefield, meanwhile, had few such problems for the Sox while improving to 5-2. Game wrapup >

May 27 at New York:
The Yankees cut into Boston's lead in the American League East with a decisive, 11-3 victory. Todd Zeile was the hero at the plate, collecting a pair of hits, including a homer, while driving in three. He also scored twice. Andy Pettitte retired the first 10 Sox he faced en route to his fifth victory of the season. Game wrapup >

May 28 at New York:
Jorge Posada walked in the ninth inning with the bases loaded, forcing in Hideki Matsui with the winning run, and the Yanks topped Boston, 6-5. The rally capped a wild evening in which the Sox trailed 5-1 before rallying. New York closer Mariano Rivera blew his first save of the season as Boston tied the score in the ninth. Garciaparra's two-run single was the big hit for the Red Sox, setting up the dramatic bottom of the ninth. Game wrapup >

July 4 at New York:
The Red Sox blasted five homers off Wells, who suffered his second consecutive loss, this time dropping a 10-3 decision. The five homers allowed tied a franchise record as Boston cut New York's lead in the American League East to three games. Jason Varitek, Ortiz and Bill Mueller hit two homers each, and Manny Ramirez also went deep. Game wrapup >

July 5 at New York:
The Red Sox bested Clemens for a second consecutive outing, earning a 10-2 victory in Ramiro Mendoza's first start of the season. Ortiz hit a pair of homers for Boston, giving him four in two games. Matsui had three hits for the Yanks, while Posada and Giambi added solo homers. Game wrapup >

July 6 at New York:
Pettitte recorded his fifth consecutive victory, retiring 16 consecutive batters from the second through the seventh innings, as the Bombers crush Boston, 7-1. Pettitte (10-6) struck out 10 to become the third 10-game winner on the club. Curtis Pride hit a solo homer for the Yanks in the sixth, his first in the Major Leagues in more than two years. Game wrapup >

July 7 at New York:
Matsui scored on a Pride grounder in the ninth to give the Yanks a 2-1 victory and a split of the four-game holiday set. The real story, however, was the starting pitching. Mike Mussina retired 21 consecutive batters, from the first inning through the eighth, and struck out 11 through seven innings. The four-game series draws 220,026, the largest four-game series attendance in the 28-year history of the remodeled Yankee Stadium. Game wrapup >

July 25 at Boston:
The Yankees won for the seventh time in 11 games against Boston, posting a 4-3 victory in a Friday-night matchup. Derek Jeter's sacrifice fly in the ninth inning scored Enrique Wilson with the winning run. Rivera improved to 5-0. Byung-Hyun Kim (3-3) suffered the loss. Wells walked five batters in 5 2/3 innings, nearly doubling his season total. Game wrapup >

July 26 at Boston:
Armando Benitez suffered his first loss as a Yankee as Boston scored a 5-4 come-from-behind victory. Ortiz's pinch-hit RBI single in the ninth was the game winner, and allowed Boston to pull to within 2.5 games of first place in the American League East. New York had erased a 4-0 lead, tying the game on Karim Garcia's pinch-hit RBI single off Kim. Game wrapup >

July 27 at Boston:
Varitek and Johnny Damon hit back-to-back homers off reliever Chris Hammond as Boston rallied from a three-run deficit for a 6-4 victory. The win cut New York's lead in the American League East to 1.5 games. Hammond came on in relief of Jeff Weaver, who had allowed just two hits in 6 1/3 innings. Casey Fossum picked up the win, with Kim earning the save. Game wrapup >

Aug. 29 at Boston:
The Red Sox pelted Contreras early and often en route to a 10-5 victory. Contreras allowed six hits and seven earned runs in three-plus innings. Mueller had four RBIs, two of which came on a homer. Garciaparra also blasted a two-run homer. With the loss, the Yanks' lead in the American League East dwindled to 3.5 games. Aaron Boone had a three-run double in the loss. Game wrapup >

Aug. 30 at Boston:
Nick Johnson had four hits and four RBIs for the Yanks, who roughed up Pedro Martinez for a 10-7 win. Posada also hit a pair of homers, his first multihomer game of 2003. Wilson added three hits and two RBIs for the Bombers, who had five runs after four innings against Martinez. Game wrapup >

Aug. 31 at Boston:
Clemens pitched for the final time in the regular season at Fenway and was given a loud, standing ovation by the crowd as he walked off the mound in New York's 8-4 victory. The win was the 100th of Rocket's career at Fenway. Jeter, Posada and Boone each had two hits. Wakefield (9-6) took the loss as Boston fell to 5 1/2 games behind New York. Game wrapup >

Sept. 5 at New York:
The Red Sox began one last push to earn an American League East title by defeating the Bombers, 9-3. The victory cut New York's lead to 2 1/2 games. Pettitte (17-8) was knocked around, lasting only 2 1/3 innings. It was the first time he failed to go at least six innings in nearly three months. Martinez, coming off a throat infection, struck out nine over six innings and beat the Yanks for the first time in four meetings. Game wrapup >

Sept. 6 at New York:
The Sox pulled to within a 1.5 games of the Yanks in the American League East with a stunning 11-0 victory. Wakefield earned his first victory in more than a month, scattering four hits over seven shutout innings. The Sox, meanwhile, easily handled Clemens, touching him for seven runs over 3 1/3 innings. It was the shortest non-injury- related start for Clemens in more than four years. Game wrapup >

Sept. 7 at New York:
Bernie Williams ended a 65-at-bat homerless drought by blasting a long, two-run bomb in the seventh inning. The shot lifted the Yanks to a 3-1 victory and prevented Boston from sweeping the three-game series. Wells picked up career victory No. 198, his first victory in his last eight starts. He retired the first seven batters he faced and was never seriously threatened. Game wrapup >
