TOP 1st: CHI 4, FLA 0: For the second time in this series, the Cubs scored four runs in the first inning, and this time they did so with just one hit against Marlins starter Dontrelle Willis. Kenny Lofton led off the inning with a walk. After Mark Grudzielanek struck out swinging for the first out, Sammy Sosa and Moises Alou each walked on four pitches to load the bases. Aramis Ramirez hit a 2-2 pitch down the left-field line for a grand slam. It was Ramirez's second homer of the series and the first grand slam in the NLCS since Atlanta's Andres Galarraga in 1998.

TOP 3rd: CHI 6, FLA 0: Sosa walked with one out against Willis. Alou singled to left to put runners at first and second. Ramirez added to the Cubs' lead with a single to right to score Sosa and advance Alou to third base. After a walk to Eric Karros, right-hander Rick Helling came on in relief of Willis. The first batter Helling faced, Alex Gonzalez, singled to left to score Alou and give Chicago a 6-0 lead.

TOP 4th: CHI 7, FLA 0: Lofton began the inning with a walk against Helling. After Grudzielanek and Sosa each struck out swinging, Alou drove home Lofton, who had advanced to second on a wild pitch during Grudzielanek's at-bat.

BOT 5th: CHI 7, FLA 2: The Marlins, who were limited to one hit through the first four innings, got three hits and two runs against Cubs starter Matt Clement in the fifth. Miguel Cabrera began the inning with a single to right field and advanced to second on a groundout by Mike Lowell. Jeff Conine singled to give the Marlins runners at the corners. Alex Gonzalez got the Marlins on the scoreboard with a groundout that scored Cabrera and moved Conine to second. Pinch-hitter Todd Hollandsworth singled to center for the Marlins' second and final run of the inning.

TOP 7th: CHI 8, FLA 2: Ramirez hit a solo homer with one out against right-hander Nate Bump. It gave Ramirez six RBIs, tying Will Clark's single-game NLCS mark set in 1989 as a member of the Giants against the Cubs.

BOT 8th: CHI 8, FLA 3: Juan Pierre reached on a fielder's choice and moved to second with two outs after Luis Castillo grounded out. Right-hander Kyle Farnsworth came on in relief of Clement and gave up an RBI double to Ivan Rodriguez, who has 13 RBIs this postseason.
