NEW YORK -- The Yankees added a powerful arm to their starting rotation on Thursday, acquiring right-hander Javier Vazquez in a four-player trade with the Montreal Expos.

New York sent first baseman Nick Johnson, outfielder Juan Rivera and left-hander Randy Choate to Montreal in exchange for Vazquez, who should bolster a starting rotation that has lost Roger Clemens to retirement and has two others, Andy Pettitte and David Wells, who are free agents.

The deal will be completed after all players involved have taken physicals. The Expos held a press conference to announce the trade at 2 p.m. ET.
