TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Diamondbacks scored six runs in the sixth inning to defeat the Cubs, 13-7, Wednesday afternoon in front of 9,608 at Tucson Electric Park.
The Diamondbacks trailed, 2-1, entering the sixth, but sent 10 men to the plate in the frame, capitalizing on two walks and a hit batter. Luis Gonzalez had an RBI single in the inning, while Richie Sexson contributed a two-run single and Alex Cintron capped the scoring with a three-run homer.
The Cubs made things interesting in the seventh, scoring three times off Casey Daigle to cut the lead to 7-5, but Arizona responded with four in the bottom half of the frame to push the lead to 11-5.
Cubs slugger Sammy Sosa started in right field and was 1-for-3 with a single in the fourth inning.
Jason Dubois hit a two-run homer for the Cubs, while Julio Ramirez added a two-run homer of his own for Arizona.
Daigle (1-0) picked up the win for the D-Backs, while Carmen Pignatiello (0-1) took the loss.
