Houston riding 18-game home win streak
Team record
The Astros finished the 2004 season with a 92-70 record. They put together their
third-best second-half record (48-26) in franchise history and they also had the second-best
end-of-season winning percentage all time from Aug. 15 on, finishing 36-10 (.783),
second only to the 1951 New York Giants (.814). The Astros ended the regular season with a sizzling 18-game
home winning streak. Overall, the Astros won 13 of their final 16 games to secure
the NL Wild Card berth.

Record vs. Braves
The Astros split their six games with the Braves during the regular season, finishing 3-3.
Houston took two of three at Turner Field from May 7-9. Jeff
Kent had three hits and three RBIs to help the Astros win the first game. In the
third game of the series, Andy Pettitte outpitched Russ Ortiz. Houston dropped
two of three to the Braves at Minute Maid Park in the first week of August.
Morgan Ensberg scored a run in the bottom of the eighth to give the Astros the
win in Game 1 of the series. Five of the six games between the two clubs were decided
by a single run.
Season series
Record vs. playoff teams
The Astros compiled a 16-17 record against teams making the postseason this
year. Besides splitting their six games with the Braves, the Astros put together
a winning record against NL Central Division champion St. Louis (10-8), but were
just 1-5 against the NL West champ Dodgers. The Astros took two of three from AL
West champion Anaheim in an Interleague series in June at Minute Maid Park.
Record vs. winning teams
The Astros were .500 against 10 teams with winning records this season,
finishing 41-41. The Astros were .500 or above
against all but the Cubs (9-10), Dodgers (1-5), Giants (2-4) and Padres (2-4).
Houston had its most success against the Phillies with a perfect 6-0 mark.
Hitting stats
The Astros ranked seventh in hitting in the National League with a .267 team
batting average. They were fourth in triples (36), sixth in runs scored (803)
and slugging percentage (.436) and seventh in homers (187). The
veteran Astros showed patience at the plate, ranking fourth in bases on balls
(590) and 12th in strikeouts (999).

Individually,
Lance Berkman led the Astros in batting average (.316), home runs (30) and
slugging percentage (.566). Craig Biggio was fourth in the NL in doubles (47)
and Kent tied for fifth in triples (8). Carlos Beltran, acquired in a
midseason trade with Kansas City, topped the Astros with 28 stolen bases.

Pitching stats
The Astros ranked sixth in team ERA (4.05), tied the Braves for second in
shutouts, were second in strikeouts (1,282) and ninth in walks allowed (525).
Houston's staff surrendered 174 home runs, eighth in the National League, and
recorded 47 saves, which ranked sixth in the league.
MLB pitching stats
Roy Oswalt (20) and Roger Clemens (18) were 1-2 in victories in the Senior
Circuit. Clemens ranked fifth in strikeouts (218), while Oswalt tied for first in
starts (35), tied for second in shutouts (2) and was third in innings pitched
(237). Closer Brad Lidge was 10th in saves (29) and ninth in appearances (80).

The Astros were ninth in the National League in fielding percentage (.983) and were
eighth in errors (101).

First baseman Jeff Bagwell was third in the National League with a .995 fielding
percentage, while second baseman Jeff Kent was third at his position with a .989

2004 Stats vs. Braves
Lance Berkman played in all six games against the Braves and batted
.444 (8-for-18) while Ensberg hit .353 (6-for-17) in five games against
Atlanta.
Hitting Stats
Clemens held the Braves to two runs on four hits in seven innings and took
a no-decision in his only start against them on Aug. 3. In his only start
against the Braves on May 8, Oswalt took the loss, allowing three runs on
six hits in 7 1/3 innings.
