The Yankees lead their ALDS series with the Twins, 2-1, but their bullpen
has not performed well so far, blowing a save in Game 2 and allowing six
baserunners and three runs in three innings in Game 3. In those two games,
the bullpen allowed five of 11 inherited runners to score. Only in Game 1, when Tom Gordon and Mariano Rivera each threw a scoreless
frame, did the bullpen not allow a run or an inherited runner to score.
The Bombers no longer have the horses like Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte
and David Wells to go eight or even nine innings as in years past, so the
bullpen's performance bears watching.
