Two days after saying he was coming back to manage the Washington-bound Expos, Frank Robinson agreed to terms on a one-year contact with the club on Thursday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Under Robinson's leadership, the Expos are 233-253 the last three seasons. The club finished 83-79 in each of his first two seasons before slipping to fifth in the National League East last season with a 67-95 record.

"We are excited to have him back. He and I are on the same page, and I think things are going forward. Both of us are very positive in the direction we are going," interim general manager Jim Bowden said.

Robinson had indicated a couple of weeks ago that he would like a raise, but he said on Tuesday that money was no longer a factor. He realized that he will not get the money he wants until ownership is in place.

"We'll get the contract done. That's no problem," Robinson said on Tuesday. "I know the situation, and it still exists until we get ownership. We are going to focus and concentrate on putting the best team together and give the Washington fans a good ballclub."

Robinson returns to manage at RFK Stadium, the ballpark where he hit two grand slams in consecutive plate appearances on June 26, 1970, off Senators pitchers Joe Coleman and Joe Grzenda.
